Grenada to Receive Libyan Grant

Grenada expects to receive a US$1.9 million grant from Libya for public works projects as part of Libya's aid policy of African and Caribbean countries. Grenada Foreign Minister Peter David says the money is part of US$10 million slated for the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States to use in at least six of the nine member island nations.

No details were available on 17 August 2010, although the money likely will fund road construction and other projects. David said Grenada also expects Libya to forgive a US$6 million debt. OECS officials have worked out several agreements with Libya, including the opening of a Libyan embassy in St. Lucia and a bank in St. Kitts. Libya plans to visit the region in September for a follow up.- TripoliPost
