Iran imported more than €1.8 worth of goods from Germany in the first half of the current year, showing a significant increase comparing to the corresponding figure of the last year. The total amount of German goods imported to Iran stood at €1.85 billion during the first six months of this year, up 14% from the first half of 2009. Meanwhile, Iran’s exports to the country surged 88% to €280 million. German imports to Iran included industrial machines, chemical products, and metals.
Iran’s import of machineries from Germany rose from €480 million to €635 million from January to June, while chemical imports increased from €149 million to €235 million and the import of metals was almost unchanged at €168 million. Topping the list of Iran’s exports to Germany is crude oil and natural gas as Germany paid around €118 million for these products in the first half of 2010, compared to slightly less than €8 million during the corresponding period last year.
Iran’s imports from Germany reached €3.7 billion last year, according to official figures. Germany remains among the important trading partners of Iran, ranking third behind China and the United Arab Emirates in 2008. Nearly nine percent of all Iranian imports came from Germany. Numerous major German companies are operating in Iran, including Linde, BASF, Lurgi, Krupp, Siemens, ZF Friedrichshafen, Mercedes, Volkswagen and MAN.
Exports to US
The United States has been the ninth greatest importer of Iranian products during the last Iranian month of Mordad (23 July - 22 August 2010), Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines announced. According to the report, China, India, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Turkey, Iraq, the Netherlands, Taiwan, the US and Syria have been top 10 importers of Iranian goods during the mentioned month. Iron ore and pyrite were the top currency earners among the 409 exported items during the mentioned time.
Among the 96 foreign countries importing Iranian products, China topped the list of importers.
